The New Slogan
02:50
|
|||
[Welcome to Hong Kong 2124. I'm your host, the Caretaker. In these stories of supernatural power, we share triumph and heartbreak. Ade Anunoby sits in the basement of his home, quietly reassuring his brother Paul that the anxiety in his head is a product of the times...]
This is the new slogan
That broke is fixed and fixed is broken
We're redefining the line
And deifying the times
This is the new slogan
That broke is fixed and fixed is broken
We're redefining the line
And deifying our crimes
What are you doing, He's speaking to you
Quit living with fear now, He's speaking to you
Just drop these notions, He's speaking to you
It's speaking to you, He's speaking to you
You've got these notions, these remnants of dread
They hurt you then, now you're better off dead
Than take a step, in the direction you're led
And listen to the voice inside of your head
This is the new slogan
That broke is fixed and fixed is broken
We're redefining the line
And deifying the times
This is the new slogan
That broke is fixed and fixed is broken
We're redefining the line
And deifying our crimes
What do we know about the shape of the heart
It beckons, it speaks, and it tears us apart
My mind will sing through the tings and the arps
My life ain't defined by these feelings so far
You've got these notions, these remnants of dread
They hurt you then, now you're better off dead
Than take a step, in the direction you're led
And get the anxiety out of your head
This is the new slogan
That broke is fixed and fixed is broken
We're redefining the line
And deifying the times
This is the new slogan
That broke is fixed and fixed is broken
We're redefining the line
And deifying our crimes
This is the new slogan
That broke is fixed and fixed is broken
We're redefining the line
And deifying the times

Your Face

[A month ago, Adam Thornhill, renowned VR actor, was buying drugs from a dealer. The dealer was out of product, and Adam lashed out. Suddenly, he saw the face of Yeshua in the man. Frightened, he ran away. Now, a month later, he’s ready to change...]
(Adam)
There I was in the streets, with my flesh in need
With a lust for snow, I approached him slow
A knife at his chest, my volition had peaked
And then I saw your face
An appeal to my own fate
Running through the night
I left without a trace
All these voices, all these voices
All these voices, all these voices
I saw your face in a dealer
I see your face in my mother's tears
And then you wiped away
All the shame and fear
We are all connected through this vestige
By a message
Through the fires we are tested
No longer slaves to what we’re left with
All these voices, all these voices
All these voices, all these voices
I saw your face in a dealer
I see your face in my mother's tears
And then you wiped away
All the shame and fear
I saw your face in a dealer
I see your face in my mother's tears
And then you wiped away
All the shame and fear
We are all connected through this vestige
By a message
Through the fires we are tested
No longer slaves to what we’re left with

[Miles Urquhart thought VR gaming would fill the void in his soul. Then after an intense hour of cyber-debauchery, he feels complete emptiness. He turns to tell his story to an estranged old friend, Dre McIntosh, whom had been praying for him for years...]
(Miles)
I shed my mask for you, Lord
I give my past to you, Lord
I tread this path with you, Lord
No other love’s a match for you
(Dre)
I shed my mask for you, Lord
I give my past to you, Lord
I tread this path with you, Lord
No other love’s a match for you
(Miles)
Have you felt these pixels
Immersed around you
Living a fantasy
While I showed my true self
As I bashed his brains in
I played the escapist
The power was a high
Was this enlightenment?
While my body decayed
In the real life
And I lost all feeling
For my health and my wife
I hit a ceiling
And my rivals had spiked
My heart was full
Of jealousy and strife
Digital and analogue
The Masquerade falls
And the virtual self’s gone
And so are these walls
Digital and analogue
The Masquerade falls
And the virtual self’s gone
And so are these walls
I shed my mask for you, Lord
I give my past to you, Lord
I tread this path with you, Lord
No other love’s a match for you
(Dre)
I shed my mask for you, Lord
I give my past to you, Lord
I tread this path with you, Lord
No other love’s a match for you
(Miles)
I don't deserve, anything
Jewels, glory or rings
They were all fake kings
This digital god
That I bowed to
Tore my brain and my name in two
I have exposed this pain
A discomfort I’ve found
Deep in my veins
My friend, you've always prayed
For me safe and sound
To the end of this age
Digital and analogue
The Masquerade falls
And the virtual self’s gone
And so are these walls
Digital and analogue
The Masquerade falls
And the virtual self’s gone
And so are these walls
(Dre)
Now I know I don't have to save my face
Just knowing you gave me grace
You pulled me out of the grave
And when you speak, the whole earth it shakes
Knowing your embrace
You forgave me of my mistakes
(Miles)
Digital and analogue
The Masquerade falls
And the virtual self’s gone
And so are these walls
Digital and analogue
The Masquerade falls
And the virtual self’s gone
And so are these walls

Punisher

[Ilya Vesnikov has been trying to repair her relationship with her ill mother, Talia Vesnikov, for years. Talia enters a relationship with a young man named Lao Feng. Ilya knows him to be a smooth-talking con-artist capable of abuse and greedy for money, from her own solo interactions with him. But despite pleas to her mother to break up, her mother doesn't listen. They eventually get married.
One night, Ilya is wandering the streets of Hong Kong when she gets a call from corporate police telling her that Talia has burned to death. A trial is held with Lao Feng as a suspect, and he convinces the judge and jury that he is innocent despite Talia's insistence and claims that he murdered her to collect the insurance money. Lao Feng is easily acquitted and eventually goes back to another woman in the following months, whom he had previously fathered children with.
Absolutely consumed with a mixture of vengeance, sadness, and hatred for Lao Feng, months pass by and one day Ilya drives to Lao Feng's residence, with one goal in mind: to kill him by mowing him down with her vehicle. Throughout her journey, a voice speaks through her mind telling her against it. Arriving at his residence, she parks across the street, and in an hour, Lao Feng steps out. But then his children also step out...]
(Ilya)
You can never know my pain
How could you easily get away
With that heinous act you played
Now I'm gunna make you pay
I am your punisher
Delivering vengeance
You'll suffer on this earth
And every day it goes by
Seeing her face in the pyre
Suffering in so much pain
Who could deserve such a fate?
But now you're gunna face the fires
And I'll make you taste these tires
Grovel in the gravel
Your perfect life unraveled
(אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה)
Promises of pain
Hurting through your brain
This is not the way
But a grave mistake
The blood you spill coagulates
Into sins that'll haunt in age
Listen to my voice
Follow me and you're safe
(Ilya)
Driving through the night
This voice gives insight
Between the dark and light
Vengeance is on my mind
I am your punisher
Delivering vengeance
You'll suffer on this earth
I am your punisher
Delivering vengeance
You'll suffer on this earth
You'll know the hurt that you gave me
You better dig your grave deep
You think I'm crazy?
I'll show you crazy!
Hatred
She was worth nothing to you
Your greed is abundant for two
You'd never visit her tomb
The evidence goes through the roof
Do they know your deceit?
You will admit your defeat
It's too late to turn a new leaf
Your grave is less than six feet!
(אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה)
Promises of pain
Hurting through your brain
This is not the way
But a grave mistake
The blood you spill coagulates
Into sins that'll haunt in age
Listen to my voice
Follow me and you're safe
(Ilya)
Driving through the night
This voice gives insight
Between the dark and light
Vengeance is on my mind
Driving through the night
This voice gives insight
Between the dark and light
Vengeance is on my mind
You can never know my pain
How could you easily get away
With that heinous act you played
Now I'm gunna make you...
What am I doing?
This isn't me
I almost killed a man
In front of his breed
What am I doing?
This isn't me
I almost killed a man
In front of his breed
What am I doing?
This isn't me
I almost killed a man
In front of his breed
What am I doing?
This isn't me
I'll make the right choice
And I'll be free

[Derrick Delia and Xun Gengxin were long in love, and members of Aetherspace, a fanatical religious doomsday cult. Gengxin, having been addicted to virtual reality for years, decides she wants to upload her consciousness into the vast, underground database maintained by the cult. Derrick however, a higher member in Aetherspace, suddenly doesn't believe in the aims of it anymore. He tries to convince Gengxin to leave the cult with him, but she refuses and does not believe him. Out of sadness and fear, Derrick, who secretly believed in some form of afterlife, and wanting to flee the cult and the state of the world, leaves her and travels to a newfound space colony on the Moon because he thinks she will not change. Gengxin in despair, wallows in her depression, filling the void in her heart with virtual reality, all the while reconsidering her decision to upload her mind. There is a hope...]
(The Caretaker)
The silence sizzles in the stream of her breath
The air frozen pixelated fractals
This reality or death, like light to the pests
Pushes her further into shackles
She remembers a time, when they shared space
But he left to the stars just to save his face
And now she looks up, with an off-world hope
And it blinds her in more than her eyes
Don't look backwards or you'll see the snakes
There's an infestation and you'll lose the race
But there's a hope
Just drop the deadweights and go
Don't look backwards or you'll see the snakes
There's an infestation and you'll lose the race
And there's a soul
Buried in the shell you call home
Still she waits
And still she hopes
The loudness fuels, the pump of his heart
Living in dreams was never an art to him
He wanted less
With finality and death
Torn asunder from his rosebud
He is free to look to love
Yet there's still doubt
Of any beyond that exists
Don't look backwards or you'll see the snakes
There's an infestation and you'll lose the race
But there's a hope
Just drop the deadweights and go
Don't look backwards or you'll see the snakes
There's an infestation and you'll lose the race
And there's a soul
Buried in the shell you call home
The dead space, that is between the stars
Will not point to who you are
Looking onward while wearing a mask
Reaching out for what you cannot grasp
She thought the love would never fade
But the love turned out to be a fake
Mazed and dazed, fazed at the fate
Does fate exist? She thought they were soul mates
Don't look backwards or you'll see the snakes
There's an infestation and you'll lose the race
And there's a hope
Just drop the deadweights and go
Don't look backwards or you'll see the snakes
There's an infestation and you'll lose the race
And there's a soul
Buried in the shell you call home

Cargo Cult
04:42
|
|||
[In the panic of a nuclear World War IV, the worldwide neo-religious cult Aetherspace preps its members for the uploading of their minds into a vast, underground database, only to emerge after the war streaming the consciousness into new, wireless, artificial-flesh bodies to reap the leftover material possessions and establish a government in the ashes. Calling it "a gift" and a "calling from God," Donovan Delia, the bespectacled and charismatic leader, spits promises of a paradise cultivated from a union of nature and technology from his pulpit.
The first demonstrated test subject was Aetherspace member and financial backer Han Shin, a former drug lord with terminal lung cancer. The test, by the looks of it, appeared to be a success. In a live broadcast through VR networks and television, countless viewers and in-person spectators watched as the supposedly digitized consciousness of Han Shin stumbled through the podium in his new, wireless body. Donovan Delia then performed a litmus test of the most secretive of Han Shin's memories, and the body passed with flying colours to thunderous applause worldwide. From that day forward, thousands of financers poured equity and investment into the project.
Fast forward to the present. Upload day is imminent, and threats of World War IV paint an impending doom upon the populace. Jamal Fox, however, has a divine vision one day of a message to deliver to Delia, and through it, has uncovered a terrible secret. Jamal discovered that the upload procedure makes an AI copy of the person's consciousness, and the original person dies. And not only does Donovan Delia believe himself to be a prophet of his own false ideology, but that he is corrupt from his power.
Jamal then confronts Donovan Delia...]
(Jamal)
Can your mind live as a tomb?
And pass this Chinese Room?
This digitization, is sensation
His self is dead, it's just imitation
(Donovan)
Who do you think you are?
You're lowly, you won't get far
(Jamal)
I'm trying to save you, from the stakes
You came with an aim, but it's a grave
(Donovan)
You're just causing, further fission
And it only causes to further my own vision
(Jamal)
If only you would just listen
This addiction is a sickness, and soon a perdition
(Jamal)
We could agree to disagree
But I'm not giving up
I won't let you make this mistake
(Donovan)
Why do you care for me?
Who am I to you?
(Jamal)
We all thought you cared for us
(Jamal)
Is this a world that you'd want to live in?
Where darkness reigns, among division
I've seen a new world, in my visions
A kingdom of provision
(Jamal)
There's a house with many rooms
Just waiting for you to come through
(Donovan)
That's not a world that we'll live in
I'm here to solve this division
Aetherspace is on a mission
And we will erase your fiction
Who are you to talk to me
You are no leader, I'm a king
It was I who led the way
And you won't be here to stay
(Donovan)
The material world is ours
From the beaches to the towers
Our enemies, they will cower
We will be immortal, in an hour
(Jamal)
A digital construct, it creates
And your mind will be a grave
Your brother gave me this message, it's not too late
The upload is a fake
(Donovan)
My brother?
(Jamal)
Is this a world that you'd want to live in?
Where darkness reigns, among division
I've seen a new world, in my visions
A kingdom of provision

[Yao Yen (Yen Yao) is on a hunting safari with his friend in the jungles of southern China, hunting genetically cloned South China tigers that were resurrected and reintroduced into the wild, when suddenly, two tigers attack and critically injure them. On the brink of death to these tigers, out of nowhere appears Heng Liu (Liu Heng), who kills the tigers and saves their lives. Heng tells Yao that he was a mile away and that an angel told him the exact location of Yao and that he was in danger and needed to be saved. Yao is shocked. I now see there's no limit
To the miracles I'll witness
I rethink start to finish
My own purpose and vision
I don't know where you've come from
You don't know all the things I've done
Out in the wild my heart burns cold
Begging you now to feel my soul
I'll get slandered
And I'll get mocked
But none of that matters
Real love won't stop
Everything's fake
Compared to the truth
But how will they listen?
When the heart holds the proof?
(Yao)
I stared into the jaws of death
To faith from existential dread
And then you came, out from left
Revealed to me, the life I'd led
(Heng)
You're here for a purpose
You're here for a reason
Don't think otherwise
This lie is a demon
(Yao)
This is a sensation
That is new to me
(Heng)
There's more to life
Than living the dream
(Yao)
I don't know where you've come from
You don't know all the things I've done
Out in the wild my heart burns cold
Begging you now to feel my soul
(Heng)
Miracles come and wonders go
Out of the grounds the roots will grow
Enemies fade with tears they fall
Salvation comes to save them all
(Yao)
I'll get slandered
And I'll get mocked
But none of that matters
Real love won't stop
Everything's fake
Compared to the truth
But how will they listen?
When the heart holds the proof?

[After an intense breakup with her lover Callum Stinegrove, Priscilla "Cilla" Hurtad escapes to the now-abandoned island of Efate, of the former nation of Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean. Arriving in the nation's former capital of Port Vila (once completely destroyed by nuclear fallout during World War III), anxiety and depression contribute to the agony that drives her isolation. Woodworking, drinking, and reading books, she sits in quiet forlorn, when a whisper tells her that growth isn't possible without pain...]
(Cilla)
Sever the ties and cut the rope
No faking holding on to hope
It's time to choose a road
Getting hurt is the key to growth
I ran away, from this noise
To an island of decay
Across the sea I'm isolated
On my throne of dopamine
The world can't hurt me anymore
These walls protect my mind
Make an incision, stare inside
You'll be surprised at what you find
What have I done?
I thought I found peace
Instead I am trapped
In my kingdom of greed
Where are you now?
I don't know if you're there
All I ask is do you care?
About my deep despair
What is the course of action?
When reality splits in fractions?
When everything you thought you knew
Comes down within your bastion?
Sever the ties and cut the rope
No faking holding on to hope
It's time to choose a road
Getting hurt is the key to growth
The scent of pine
It takes me back
To nights of passion
My senses crash
My memory's held captive
To a spectre of this past
Just thinking of you
And the grave of our failures
Our love never bloomed
It became a fossil
Filling this tomb
With everything awful
Just thankful it was possible
Just thankful it was possible
Can healing soon be found
When my feelings make me bound
Is there a hand at the end of the road
That'll pull me out of the ground
Alone I am lost
In my counsel of thoughts
That tempt me with
All of power and gloss
I'm cowering, mocked
By an hourly clock
That ticks away
As I count all I've sought
What have I done?
I thought I found peace
Instead I am trapped
In my kingdom of greed
Where are you now?
I don't know if you're there
All I ask is do you care?
About my deep despair
What is the course of action?
When reality splits in fractions?
When everything you thought you knew
Comes down within your bastion?
(אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה)
Cilla.
Leave.
Trust Me.

Trapped on an island
Full of fear on this island
I've got to leave this island

Priorities, priorities
I'm lying in luxury sheets
While people bleed in the streets
The vicious press through the meek
My empathy's on, a cliff so steep
Turn off the digital face
This is no time for escape
It's time to place all my faith
In a path, these steps I must take
There's a quest to be, community
I'm questioning my placement of
Priorities, priorities, priorities, priorities
I'll take the speck from my eye
I'm no longer special inside
I won't stand idle, while you're in survival
Cause I'm discipled by a love so bridal
There's a quest to be, community
I'm questioning my placement of
Priorities, priorities, priorities, priorities

[Around the late 2080s, new trailblazing developments by emergent private drug companies surfaced, claiming they had produced artificially-engineered, less-addictive versions of drugs such as cocaine and heroin, and by the 2090s, these artificial replacements were legalized. The artificial versions of these drugs are collectively referred to as "smart" drugs, whereas the originals are referred to as "stained" drugs. Because the price of legalized and engineered "smart" drugs are so high, drug kingpins will sell "stained" drugs at a far lower price.
Georgia Nottoli's life is that of disarray. She sits in an emergency room as medics rush to save the life of her husband, the powerful drug cartel gangster Art Nottoli, who has been shot by a rival. However, recent reluctance and deepseated unsettlement of her family's criminal lifestyle resurfaces in the waning hours of this tragedy...]

The pendulum of power swings
And the curse of this hour stings
Spending a life, for material things
Only signals the reaper, the loudness rings
And mistress death, she comes
And furthers the drowning of lungs
Karma collects, it spat from its tongue
And I can't feel anything under the sun
Am I complicit?
Could I have fixed this?
He was denied, from a life
By strife, and now I miss him
I'm nothing but a hypocrite
Wealth was always a bottomless pit
It fueled every single sin of his
And the world never seemed to care about him
We purified our vices, why can't we cure
The hatred inside us, it's nature's score
We lessened other evils now why can't you?
Where are you God? I want the final truth
Do our sins obscure our love?
Is this my punishment from above?
If you really exist, you will show yourself
And deliver me from this personal hell
(Art)
Georgia.....He spoke to me
I can feel emotions
Nothing's truly hopeless
I'm aware and focused
Tearing down our fortress
This is a calling
Through a new faith
I've been pulled out
From an assumed grave
I can feel emotions
Nothing's truly hopeless
I'm aware and focused
Tearing down our fortress
This is a calling
Through a new faith
I've been pulled out
From an assumed grave
I couldn't believe my eyes
Darkness enclosed, I could feel it rise
I cried out with a name
And then it was quashed, by a light
It surrounded me and saved me
Forgiveness replaced my paining
It told me that I'm not done
Something inside has changed me
I can feel emotions
Nothing's truly hopeless
I'm aware and focused
Tearing down our fortress
This is a calling
Through a new faith
I've been pulled out
From an assumed grave
I can feel emotions
Nothing's truly hopeless
I'm aware and focused
Tearing down our fortress
This is a calling
Through a new faith
I've been pulled out
From an assumed grave
This life of crime, I realized
Can be stopped, I will not be obliged
Cause perfect truth, it will reveal the lies
I will no longer have it deified

Now I can't breathe in
We poured in everything
Now I lose it all to fate
This isn't what we dreamed
I find it hard to breathe
When the clock's ticking
And I lose your embrace
To a sinister fate
I remember in our first days
You took a look at the waves
And you singled out the motions
You said we're all a part of the chain
We're all a special part of
The plans of God
You said you'd live
To see the breath of our first child
To see a future
And the sands of the hourglass fall
Now I can't breathe in
We poured in everything
Now I lose it all to fate
This isn't what we dreamed
You never promised anything
Except for the now
It's all in your vows
But now your going to a place
Where time has no bounds
And lost is found
You were always eternal
There is a love
That is greater than you
FEAR
I find it hard to breathe
When the clock's ticking
And I lose your embrace
To a sinister fate
Now I can't breathe in
We poured in everything
Now I lose it all to fate
This isn't what we dreamed
Now I can't breathe in
We poured in everything
Now I lose it all to fate
This isn't what we dreamed
The time we've had, it was a gift
And I've held you in my arms
And told you that I've got you
I'd keep you safe from harm
But now it comes crumbling down
In an instant, this race I can't finish
But I'll let go and believe
That I'll see you in the end
I don't know what to be
Other than strong
That's what you'd want for me
So I'll live on
Now I can't breathe in
We poured in everything
Now I lose it all to fate
This isn't what we dreamed
Now I can't breathe in
We poured in everything
Now I lose it all to fate
This isn't what we dreamed
