For those who don't know the context of this song, something different was done than the usual redemptive stories we tell. In the context of our EP, Anoikodomeo, of which this song is included, it represents part of the first half of the EP which is a deconstructive critique and cautionary tale of the psyche of the far American right-wing, the class divide, apocalyptic evangelicals, and the borderline self-centered age of social popularity we live. And nobody embodies those negative ideals all together than a certain television character. Thus, the song is ultimately about him; a character so narcissistic, psychopathic, and nigh invincible with unrivaled power, that he could literally squash you into the ground within a single second. And the only thing keeping him at bay is his need to be liked by others: a modern theme for a modern age. Such questions should be provoked within, such as how do we function when we give people such power? Are they beyond redemption? It struck a chord with us and was so fitting for a song with nasty breakdowns.
And so, the results of the song are a different lyrical approach than we've done on Hong Kong 2124, which was a concept album, but Anoikodomeo is a different concept: to rebuild again.
lyrics
You will know perfection
And that is me, you fail to see
That I'm the only man in the sky
Get down and bow, until your knees are weak
Running your lines, Stan, like I'm your stan
You think I'm your boy, but I'm "The Man"
I'm the S-tier, and you're all the F tier
Feel the laser from your right to left ear
Everything is numb
The power is gone from underneath my thumb
I can do whatever I want
A god is far from none
I'm the hero you need
And the hero that you deserve
Sticks and stones, won't break my bones
But words will cut my reach
Cut it out like a cancer
Yearning for love is no longer the answer
Cut it out like a cancer
You're all just ants and the world is my manor
It's time to believe
That gods are perfect
If you don't understand
Then you're less than worthless
It's time to believe
That gods are perfect
If you don't understand
Then you're less than worthless
Everything is numb
The power is gone from underneath my thumb
I can do whatever I want
A god is far from none
Everything is numb
The power is gone from underneath my thumb
I can do whatever I want
Superhuman with carte blanche
Cut it out like a cancer
Yearning for love is no longer the answer
Cut it out like a cancer
You're all just ants and the world is my manor
